허리 통증을 지속적으로 호소하는 환자에서 마약성 진통제의 사용은
의사에게도, 환자에게도 항상 걱정되는 일입니다.

왜냐하면 마약성 진통제는 통증 관리나 직장으로의 빠른 복귀를 위해서는
효과적이지만

중독, 의존, 내성 등의 문제가 있기 때문입니다.

그래서 많은 의사들, 환자들도 마약성 진통제를 중단하고 싶어하지만
중단하면 통증이 다시 발생하니 이를 끊는게 참 어려운 일입니다.

The spine journal이라는 유명 학술지에서
2월에 나온 논문에서 진행한 연구인데요

이 연구에서는 265명의 척추변형 관련 수술을 받은 환자들을 조사했고

이 환자들을 5년간 관찰 한 결과

수술 전에도 마약성 진통제를 먹고 있었던 환자들은
수술 후에도 마약성 진통제를 장기간(평균 68개월) 복용하게 될 확률이 높았으며

수술 전 마약성 진통제를 안 먹고 있었어도
수술 후 6주 뒤, 6개월 뒤에도 마약성 진통제를 계속 복용하고 있으면
마찬가지로 장기적으로 복용하게 될 확률이 높았다고 합니다.

수술 후 6주 뒤에 마약성 진통제를 먹고 있게 할 위험 요소로는
수술 전 마약성 진통제를 복용하고 있던 경우
흡연을 하는 경우
척추 변형이 심할 경우
등이 많이 굽을 수록 (흉추 굽은 정도)
마약성 진통제를 장기간 복용하게 될 확률이 높았다고 합니다

After receiving spinal surgery, the use of opioid painkillers by patients who continue to complain of back pain is always a concern for both the doctor and the patient.

This is because although opioid painkillers are effective for pain management and quick return to work, they can cause problems such as addiction and tolerance.

Therefore, many doctors and patients want to stop using opioid painkillers, but it is difficult to do so because pain recurs when they are discontinued.

This research was conducted in February in a famous academic journal called "The Spine Journal". The study examined 265 patients who underwent spinal surgery and observed them for five years.

The results showed that patients who were taking opioid painkillers before surgery were more likely to continue taking them for a long time (an average of 68 months) after surgery.

Even if they were not taking opioid painkillers before surgery, if they continued to take them six weeks or six months after surgery, they were more likely to take them for a long time.

The risk factors for taking opioid painkillers six weeks after surgery include
taking them before surgery,
smoking,
severe spinal deformity, and
more pronounced thotacic kyphosis.
